Together, they have truly created one of the greatest lieder recordings ever made. But the result seems to be somewhat artificial. This is how she met Legge, who had gone to Vienna in 1946 to find artists to record for EMI. Herbert von Karajan told him she was potentially the best singer in central Europe, and Legge signed her up after a gruelling audition.
