All Interior and Exterior Surfaces - Is that previous paint oil-base or latex? - We're preparing to repaint some exterior metal doors and plywood porch ceilings that were. We'd really like to use latex semi-gloss, but we're afraid the existing paint may be oil-base. 05-04-00, 05:23 AM. mikejmerritt.
Around the house I typically use interior satin latex, but want to be sure that I use the correct product for the bathroom Y'all know what I mean). That makes me think that the durability of an oil based paint would be better?? The same goes for the top 10" of the shower walls above where my tile stops, and the shower's ceiling. They'll get occasional water splatter off my bald head, and a lot of humidity. Can I use satin/semi-gloss latex or should I go with oil based?.
Use oil-based glaze over oil paint or latex paint. Water-based glaze can only be used on latex paint. yes but you cannot put latex on top of oil based surfaces You actually are NOT advised to put oil over latex surfaces, which is why you're supposed to prime will an oil-based (alkyd) primer. Oil based paints are meant to absorb and dry into the surface
Which would I use an oil base or latex base paint? And how do I prep them? Any help or tips would be great! Thank You! . show more I am planing to glaze my kitchen cabinets. They are not real wood, but more like cheap pressed saw dust, with what looks like contact paper on the out side of them. Ya,real beauty's! Until I can afford to replace them I would like to glaze them so they don't look soooo bad. Which would I use an oil base or latex base paint? And how do I prep them? Any help or tips would be great!
Oil or latex is fine. if it was my house w/ sheetrock walls I would do oil prime and 2 latex finish coats. Skimcoat blueboard, latex is fine, you don't even need a primer. BillBrennen Feb 06, 2007 06:24am Yes there is. Oil base will soak in and consolidate the surface of drywall mud to be more robust. This especially helps on hand-applied textures that are mostly smooth, and on skimcoated smoothwall jobs. Also, the latex you overcoat it with will not reliquify the oil primer, like can happen with latex primers. I like Zinsser's Cover-Stain oil primer, which can be topcoated.
