The way I see it this music goes back through Dub and Reggae directly to Ska. Although it was influenced heavily from American R & B and Boogie Woogie, the golden era of independent Jamaica seems to have given the music I love its mojo. Dance music with dark bass lines, repetitive riffs and infectious hooks was born in the dance halls and sound systems of early 60’s Jamaica.
