2nd LP by Aussie spacey power heavy/psych/prog trio...this LP is a bit less heavy than their brilliant debut and more in the direction of CAN...however it had still a real dose of acid, thundering rhythm section in the Magma territory, menacing Fripp-like guitar all over the place and Miles Davis-like stoned and jazzy vibe...you also have to know that the bassist played in the early 7o’s with Taman Shud and Kahva’s Jute...the first album was originally pressed at 1000 copies but almost all were sold at the time. This 2nd album was pressed at only 500 copies but the distributor goes bankrupt, and the band had to keep 120 copies. In the late 90's, a friend of mine found the band and got the 120 remaining copies...I got some copies of this find at that time. Now, more than my personal copy, I found a second one for sale...

When I first listened to Quasar it was with their debut album: "Nebular Trajectory". It blowed my mind: abstruse and awkward, full of liquid guitars, screaming textures of wild noise, groovy bass and "Force Funk" - that was astounding. "Man Coda" is even better: only four tracks, four long tracks of pure acid trip into the subconscious. The music on this record is unbelievable, a voyage into the creepy bass-guitar mud of a sick brain, a wonderful collection of avant-garde rock jams played with real genius. Extraordinaire.

A little-known Australian jazz-rock / prog-fusion group. Currently (October 2014) this is a good example of Discogs "Recommendations" failing miserably! Instead of Marvin Gaye's "Trouble Man" (makes one wonder how it came up with that) one should be getting recommendations of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Terje Rypdal and the likes of Miles Davis or Soft Machine at least. That said "Man Coda" is nothing like Quasar's other album "Nebular Trajectory" which was typical funky jazz of the era. Mostly it would seem that they'd just discovered the early ECM Rypdal albums and thought "that's a good idea" and pulled-off their own version of the said style of space-jazz with considerable aplomb. An album full of contrasts, great fiery bits and sublimely esoteric quieter parts, it's full of rewarding twists and turns. And not a song to be found! I don't think any Marvin Gaye fan will like it at all!
