Sam Rivers' second Blue Note album, CONTOURS, is an excellent quintet date which, like FUCHSIA SWING SONG before it, straddles post-bop and the avant garde with loose ideas given gorgeous shape through top-notch playing. With trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter and drummer Joe Chambers providing support, it's little wonder that Rivers' four lengthy compositions all come out winners

I'm currently living in India. I ordered this from Juno, excited about my first Tone Poet pressing. When I received the package, the vinyl had a major warp. Place a finger on one side and the other side lifts an inch! I've never seen a 180g record warped so bad. I guess this is what happens when you order a record to India at a time when the temperature has been 45 degrees Celsius for the past two weeks. Does anybody have any suggestions for how to unwarp this record. I'm thinking of putting it back outside underneath a bunch of books in the 45 degree heat, and leaving it for a few days.
Fantastic release. Blue Note can basically just have my money at this point, no questions asked, regarding the Tone Poet series. The first 3 in the series have all been fantastic, and I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Gil Evans and Joe Henderson albums over the next two weeks
Fantastic release. These Tone Poet reissues are absolutely incredible, so far. Looking to getting the rest as they're released. On a side note, DO NOT overpay for this on Discogs. I see that sellers (flippers?) are charging $50+ for this. I got mine brand new from my local record store for $28. In the US, you really should pay no more than $35 for this or any of the Tone Poet releases.
Agreed. I actually went back and had a look at the price again, and I was mistaken. They had it for $33. Regardless, I still recommend that people not pay more than $35-$40 for this.
The retail on these is $35, I'd say pay no more than $40 for these new while they are in print. $28 is a bit of a low ball from your local store
I love these Tone Poet series releases, this one is a gem!
WOW. Dead quiet, flat as a pancake, gorgeous vinyl. Laminated gatefold with original liner notes. Just brilliant.
Beautiful sound and gatefold. Very excited for the remaining upcoming Tone Poet reissues because this one is excellent.
