Nas - Untitled album
Sizzle Reel created for Nas's UNTITLED album release and to capture the feelings on the eve of President Obama's election.
The untitled ninth studio album by American rapper Nas, commonly referred to eponymously as Nas, was released on July 15, 2008 by The Jones Experience and Def Jam Recordings. Its original title Nigger was changed due to controversy surrounding the racial epithet. The album is distinguished for its political content, diverse sources of production, and provocative subject matter. The album features guest appearances from Chris Brown, Keri Hilson, Busta Rhymes, and The Game, among others.
Nas has produced an excellent 21st-century record that balances political powderkegs, audacious Escobar floss raps, complementary beats, and honest-to-god inspiration- too bad that record was his recent mixtape with DJ Green Lantern, not Untitled. I'd hate to confuse correlation with causation, but the 18 months since Hip Hop Is Dead have gone a long way towards proving Nas wrong.
The title of Nas’ eighth solo album started more conversations than the music did itself, with his Hip Hop Is Dead assertion jumpstarting industry-wide debates about the genre’s vitality in the mid-2000s. Nas dedicates the first third of the album to paying homage to the greats of yesteryear ( Where Are They Now ) and lamenting the state of the industry ( Carry On Tradition ), and he spends the rest of his time leading by example with artists who are up to the challenge. When it came time to follow up his assertion that hip hop was dead, Nas delivered an even more controversial message.
They did not have the power to stop Louis Farrakhan They were trying to touch on and thieve envy within the leadership But as a general and a man that rose through the ranks through discipline His presence inspired those men with the discipline he imposed on his own life Louis Farrakhan".

Even if the music isn't extraordinary, Nas himself is legendary on "Untitled" - and as long as racism is relevant, so is this album. 80. The new album, immersed in a soul-funk sound with guest spots from the Stylistics and the Last Poets, is contradictory at times, but the idea of building hope through about an hour's worth of music supersedes any effort to brew controversy.
