In Flames - Lunar Strain album

Lunar Strain is the debut album by Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames. It is the only album not to feature Anders Fridén on vocals and Bjorn Gelotte on either drums or lead guitar. On this album only, guitarist Jesper Stromblad plays the drums, while the vocals were sung by Dark Tranquility vocalist Mikael Stanne, a session musician for In Flames at the time. He had sung with this band previously on "Demo '93"

Lunar Strain is the debut album by Swedish Melodic Death Metal band In Flames. In this release, vocals were sung by Mikael Stanne, the vocalist of Dark Tranquillity, who was a session musician for In Flames at the time. The album is known for its "folky elements" with the inclusion of violins and acoustic guitars. Three of the songs are re-recorded versions of tracks from the band's 1993 demo.

On many reissues of this album including this release, the tracklisting has been shifted where "Clad in Shadows is track 2 with each track after shifting down by one track. Colony is the fourth album by Swedish melodic death metal band, In Flames, released on 21 May 1999 through Nuclear Blast Records. It was the first In Flames album to feature the classic line-up, Björn Gelotte switched to lead guitar to replace Glenn Ljungström and Daniel Svensson filled the drummer position left vacant by Gelotte. Peter Iwers also became the new bass player, replacing Johan Larsson.

Lunar Strain, In Flames’ debut was an interesting and unique release for the band. Present vocalist Anders Friden was with Dark Tranquillity, and fronting In Flames was none other than Mikael Stanne, the current vocalist for Dark Tranquility. This album sounds very different than any other In FLames album. In fact, it sounds a good deal like a Dark Tranquillity sound. Here we have a more mechanical, and less raw sound. This isn’t a bad thing at all, as the album proves to be a pretty solid release overall. Stanne is a great vocalist, and has more mid-pitched screams than those of Anders
