Redirected from Blue Monday (Flunk single)). It was released as a 12-inch single on 7 March 1983 through Factory Records and later as a 7-inch single through Tonpress in 1985. It appeared on certain cassette and CD versions of the band's second studio album, Power, Corruption & Lies (1983). Blue Monday" is a synth-pop and alternative dance song that drew inspirations from many works of other artists
Album Power, Corruption and Lies. The biggest selling 12 of all time was a pivotal moment in dance music. Mixing cold wave sentiment with the disco influence of Sylvester and Donna Summer, the result was a stunning explosion of drum machines, wibbly synths and Bernard Sumner’s no-nonsense vocal style. At nearly 7 and a half minutes in length, "Blue Monday" is one of the longest tracks ever to chart in the UK. It is recognised as the biggest selling 12" single of all time, but as Factory Records were not members of the British Phonographic Industry association, it was not eligible for an official gold disc.
The key enabling this to be deciphered was printed on the back sleeve of the album Power, Corruption And Lies. In Q Magazine's 1001 Best Songs Ever issue, Peter Hook said, "I go through stages of intense dislike for 'Blue Monday,' which I'm sure every group does when they get one song they're synonymous with, but the way it keeps getting reinvented is wonderful. It seems to be one of those tracks that's timeless, which is amazing. Later, Kraftwerk's ex-member Karl Bartos released an album called Communication. The release from there, "15 Minutes Of Fame" is EXTREMELY similar. How ironic! Martin from Groningen, NetherlandsRolling Stone 15/9/83 Interview by Debby Miller.
