The abundant folk music of Japan may be classified under several major headings, religious songs, work songs, ballads, children’s songs, and dancing songs sung at festivals. This album introduces the listener to all of these different styles, featuring the singing of temples monks, coastal villagers, and city geishas. Also on display is the variety of musical instruments including the samisen, the bamboo flute, and others. RELATED LESSON PLAN "SORAN BUSHI: Exploring Japanese Work Song(Hokkaido & Kitaki, Japan)".
There is the opportunity to tour some of the prison area in the basement. The exhibition includes information about both regimes, as well as testimonials from some of the victims. As well as exhibitions about the fascist and communist security services, the building often houses other temporary exhibitions. The park is also home to the Budapest Municipal Zoo and Botanical Gardens, the Budapest Circus and the Vajdahunyad Castle (housing the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture). Just outside of the park you can find the Time Wheel, which is one of the largest sand timers in the world. In this sand timer, all of the grains of glass take 1 year to fall from the top section to the bottom, and the timer is rotated every New Year.
The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble is one of the most renowned Folklore groups in Hungary. It was established in 1951 with the purpose of transporting Hungarian music, dance and costumes to other parts of the world. Since the group was created, it has fulfilled its initial purpose: to revive and perform Hungary’s rich culture all over the world. The Ensemble has a good and varied repertoire and this is what has transformed it into one of the most popular groups abroad. The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble has travelled to over 44 countries in four continents over the last 50 years. The folk orchestra plays traditional instruments, while the Gypsy orchestra, not only accompanies the dancers but plays its own songs and its repertoire includes Hungarian music and international classics like Liszt, Bartók, Kodály and Brahms.
