Meek Mill’s debut album Dreams & Nightmares is in stores now and doing numbers at a decent rate. Conkrete Media Group was on the sets of the photo shoot for the album artwork a couple of months ago and have released a behind the scenes clip showcasing some of the process. Forti, questi The Hangover. Fondati nel 2008 da Andrea (voce, chitarra) e Pierfederico (chitarra, seconda voce), vivono del solito primo periodo turbolento, in cui la lineup si deve assestare, cosa che avviene alla fine nel 2001, con l’introduzione nei ranghi di Ivan (batteria) e Diego (basso). Con una base di pezzi già composti, grazie alla stabilità portata dai due nuovi membri, il quartetto di Treviso si mette subito al lavoro su una prima demo, cui fanno prontamente seguire il qui presente “After Nightmares”, debutto della band sulla lunga distanza. Un buon debutto, davvero ‘forte’ possiamo dire, volendo usare nuovamente l’aggettivo posto all’inizio della recensione; soprattutto in quanto l’album si mostra in grado di coinvolgere l’utente al primo colpo d’orecchio, senza negargli però anche il piacere di scoprire con ulteriori ascolti delle nuove inaspettate sfumature. E’ musica quindi in grado di attrarre subito l’attenzione, quella dei The Hangover: un heavy metal potente e dalle buone melodie, impreziosito però da forti intuizioni dal gothic e dall’alternative, influenze che ne rafforzano indubbiamente la personalità e ne determinano l’ottimo potenziale. Non a caso i nomi più vicini che finiamo per citarvi descrivendovi la musica contenuta in “After Nightmares” provengono proprio da questi due calderoni… Sono infatti i Sentenced del periodo “Down” e “Crimson” a stabilire la direzione di pezzi dinamici e carichi di ritmo come “Burning Out Of Fire” e “Nice Dynamite”, mentre i Paradise Lost ci vengono ricordati da momenti più cupi e oscuri come “Murderd Memories” e “Hangover”, così come dalla voce del cantante Andrea, in grado di richiamarci alla mente Holmes in più di un’occasione. Il lato alternative ci è invece rappresentato da una schiera di nomi più vari e diversificati, tra i quali possiamo annoverare gli HIM (“After Nightmares”), i Depeche Mode (la prima parte della bellissima dark ballad “Lost Hopes”, un brano da ascoltare al buio decine di volte) e, perché no, anche gli Avenged Sevenfold, tra l’altro citati dalla band stessa tra le ipotetiche fonti di influenza. L’heavy dei The Hangover ci risulta quindi fresco, originale e assolutamente non derivativo, in grado di spaziare con agevolezza su generi ed influenze diverse senza però darci l’impressione di ‘sparare a caso’ o di mischiare ingredienti in maniera non ponderata. Buon impatto, ottima ascoltabilità ed una personalità già in avanzata fase di definizione: un ottimo punto di partenza per una band giovane, cui auguriamo con piacere un buon cammino!
