What So Not recruited some inspired guests and fellow Aussies for the album, resulting in a pleasant journey through different pockets of electronic dance featuring a handful of synth throbbers and pretty electronic soundscapes. blue highlight denotes track pick.
Even with multiple songs repeated in the remixes, it still feels like a progressive and cohesive album. A lot of that – most of that – has to do with the talented producers he tapped for the remixes: Kidswaste, Signal, Luttrell, ESKEI83, 12th Planet, AC Slater, Yvng Jalapeno, Champagne Drip, Graves, Daktyl, and MaRLo. Standouts on the album, if it’s even possible to really narrow them down, would have to be Signal’s remix of Goh ; Luttrell’s remix of Stuck In Orbit, which is impossibly beautiful; 12th Planet’s remix of If You Only Knew, an unexpected twist on dubstep from the man who’s been focusing so heavily on riddim lately; and Champagne. Drip’s future bass remix of Goh, which is honestly far more bass than future.
What So Not enlisted someted friends to help represent the many moods and voices of the project. The 12-track album will include his last single Be Ok Again featuring former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns as well as his brand new single Stuck In Orbit which has just dropped today - featuring vocals by BUOY and co-written by Jono Ma (of Jagwar Ma). Of Stuck In Orbit What So Not says: This song started as a jam with Jono Ma (Jagwar Ma) in his film scoring studio.
How is this What So Not’s debut album? Since the inception of the What So Not project it feels like we’ve always had a constant stream of new music from the Australian producer. Well after a slew of EP’s and singles that still manage to smash our faces in ( cough cough Tell Me) we finally have a full length album. Not All The Beautiful Things is a culmination of What So Not’s musical prowess so far. Tracks like Same Mistakes have the classic What So Not build up that we have come to expect while Bottom End showcases his love for bass
