Of Natural History" was my first taste of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and ever since I have seen them perform live at every opportunity. There are very few records that truly deserve the tagline "like nothing you've ever heard before," but this is surely one of them. Oh sure, there's some Art Bears and Mr. Bungle in there, but the overall effect is totally unique. Still, don't expect anything else than pure Avant-garde rock ā la Sleepytime Gorilla Museum from this album since this is exactly what you're going to get from this performance. Of Natural History is an excellent follow-up to the ground work that was set by Grand Opening And Closing and it feels like this band can almost do no wrong no matter the direction they decide to pursue with their future releases.
Of Natural History is the second studio album by avant-rock/metal group Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. It was recorded and mixed at Polymorph Recording in Oakland, California during the years 2003 and 2004. Whereas on the first album, Grand Opening and Closing, Dan Rathbun handled the mastering (in addition to producing, recording, and mixing), on Of Natural History the mastering duties are handled by Justin Weis, who mastered the album at Trakworx, San Francisco.
Matrix, Runout: CD204-033S Of Natural History REV/CA. Mastering SID Code: IFPI LK02. This whopper of a concept album is all about humanity, its obsession with technology, its war addiction, its destruction of the natural world, among other shitty things, and a donkey-headed Eldritch monstrosity and the Unabomber's attempts to combat it all. Needless to say, it's one of the darkest albums I think I've ever heard.
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum are one of the most amazing, original and confusing bands I've ever heard. They make beutiful music that makes me want to laugh and scream at the same time. The singer is very similar to Mike Patton in his delivery, range and vocal qualities and if he is to Mike Patton, then the female singer is to Bjork. It tells about some creature. Animals are clearly a huge part of this album and it is some sort of concept album but the concept besides animals, I cannot tell. The strangness factor of this song is amazing and just blows me away. A sound byte ends the song with a conversation between two rednecks and is funny but also sets a cool mood.
Of Natural History (2004) by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Labels: Mimicry Records. Genres: Avant-Garde Metal .
kempokid Of Natural History is the second studio album by avant-rock, metal group Sleepytime Gorilla Museum via Mimicry Records. A very unique album with some downright horrific songs littered throughout. The Top Ten. 1 FC: the Freedom Club. A diverse masterpiece that constantly switches between softly sung, eerie sections, and highly aggressive growling. Despite the fact that the majority of the album is weird, intense and downright terrifying in places, this song is absolutely beautiful. The deep vocals are extremely high quality, with the falsetto being great at establishing the contrast of the album, being somewhat offputting and creepy, perfectly summing up the album. This song is essentially one massive buildup, with a slow, eerie start and a simple guitar riff, building up into some chilling female vocals and more strange rhythm.
