As the fifth Guns N’ Roses studio album, The Spaghetti Incident? is notable for comprising entirely of older punk and hard rock song covers, and would be their last release until Chinese Democracy 15 years later. This was the only album to feature rhythm guitarist Gilby Clarke following the departure of Izzy Stradlin, and the last recorded with guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum before their departures from the band in 1996 and 1997 respectively. The title references an event during the summer of 1989 when Axl Rose relocated the band to Chicago for the writing of Use.

The Spaghetti Incident?, released in 1993, appeared almost as a release valve. This loose-limbed frolic through 13-or-so hard rock, punk and glam covers was the reminder that the big-budget band carving out nine-minute chunks of MTV was once stripped-down blues-metal dirtbags that made Los Angeles hair bands look like the spandex Monkees in 1986. Having your song on a Guns N’ Roses album is a considerable chunk of change, says Chrome. I moved down to Nashville, got resettled down there and was able to live and not work for a while. Definitely turned my life around a little bit.

The Spaghetti Incident?, which came out November 23, 1993, was recorded when the band was in a state of turmoil and turned out to be the only album by Guns N’ Roses that the band didn’t tour to support. There are a couple of reasons for this. Original Guns N’ Roses guitarist Izzy Stradlin recorded many tracks for the record before he was left the band in 1991. In addition to nine punk rock songs – by the Damned, . Subs, New York Dolls, the Stooges, the Dead Boys, Misfits, the Professionals, Johnny Thunders and Fear – The Spaghetti Incident? opened in surprise fashion with Since I Don’t Have You, a number by the doo-wop group the Skyliners and also included a medley of T. Rex’s Buick Makane and.
