Marie Antoinette: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack album to the 2006 historical drama film Marie Antoinette. It was released on October 10, 2006, by Verve Forecast Records and Polydor Records.
Marie-Antoinette was an Austrian princess before she married Louis XVI in 1770. Clothing had always been a powerful signifier of nationality. There, Marie-Antoinette was stripped of all her Austrian clothes and dressed with clothing made in France. The ritual signified her transformation from Austrian to French.
Marie-Antoinette was famous for her candy-colored costumes and was known as the consummate fashionista and party girl of the late eighteenth century. The title Queen of Fashion was given to her by Caroline Weber in her book. Fearlessly Authentic.
Cultural depictions of Marie Antoinette. Marie Antoinette, Queen of France, is best remembered for her legendary extravagance and for her death: she was executed by guillotine during the Reign of Terror at the height of the French Revolution in 1793 for the crime of treason. Her life has been subject of many historically accurate biographies, as well as subject of romance novels and films.
Marie Antoinette is a soundtrack as sovereign entity, married to the film but not dependent on it for meaning or listener enjoyment. Say what you want about Sofia Coppola the filmmaker, but Coppola the soundtrack auteur is uniquely intuitive and confidently complex (this soundtrack, like those for her previous films, is produced by Brian Reitzell, although it seems completely her own).

Step into the excitement and chaos of the French Revolution as told by musician and artist Jeffrey Lewis. Born in Vienna, Austria, in 1755, Marie Antoinette married the future French king Louis XVI when she was just 15 years old. The young couple soon came to symbolize all of the excesses of the reviled French monarchy, and Marie Antoinette herself became the target of a great deal of vicious gossip. After the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789, the royal family was forced to live under the supervision of revolutionary authorities.
Marie Antoinette (who was given the Latin baptismal name of Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna) was born at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna. She was the fifteenth child, and eleventh (and last) daughter, of Francis I and Empress Maria Theresa.
