Lord Of The Ages is a music studio album recording by MAGNA CARTA (Prog Related/Progressive Rock) released in 1973 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. The signature track of the album, and indeed arguably of the band, is the epic title track. This is Magna Carta's "Stairway to heaven". The comparison with that song is appropriate on a number of levels.
Released on the classic ''swirl'' Vertigo label, which makes this particular issue an interesting case as the same original UK issue has the "spaceship" new label design. No lyric insert was included in this italian issue. The UK issue had the lyric insert, but this italian one doesn't. Other Versions (5 of 24) View All. Cat.
This sounds often pretty nice, but there is so hopelessly little substance in the music that it is ultimately only the surface that shines. Underneath, a big void stares mercilessly at us. The lyrics are as pretentious as they come and will cause many of us to blush involuntarily. Sugar is everywhere on the music in thick layers. Sad low point: the Elton John imitation of That was yesterday, or is it satire? At least M. ean is in form. Three wild cloud-riders on very eager mounts appear over the horizon
Here is a Gold Disc hit album from 1973, with beautiful songs performed with taste, skill and sophistication – these are the hallmarks of Magna Carta’s musical output that reached a creative peak on this outstanding album. Lord Of The Ages’ was the fifth release by a British group that took folk music into a new dimension during the early 1970s. All the songs are written by founder member Chris Simpson and vary in mood from the gentle lilting introspection of ‘Wish It Was’ and ‘Two Old Friends’, to the dynamic title track that evolves into an aggressive blues-style workout
Lord of the Ages is one of the six Magna Carta albums that went gold. The lyrics from this album and Seasons were used as part of the English syllabus in several European countries. You can also hear the original recording of the Lord of the Ages title track on a YouTube video accompanied by some nice 1960s graphics.
