Mozart! was the center of attention from the start as the Vienna, Austrian musical that infused classical and rock music. The music was created by the hands of world renown lyricist Michael Kunze and Grammy Award winning composer Sylvester Levay. The musical Mozart! depicts Mozart’s longings for love and freedom through a blend of Rock’s passion, Pop’s sweetness and Jazz’s smoothness.

For the many times I see people screaming plagiarism on Elisabeth, the many times those people will be whacked with a rubber squeaky ruler on the head. Lévay - Kunze: Marie Antoinette @ Budapest Operetta Theatre. Shame or not, my descriptive skills fail this time. It is so embarrassing, I don’t know, where shall I begin. The original Japanese cast album wasn’t very good either, but this revision has not one tune to hum or to remember. Reusing early once abandoned demos, yes, I’m looking at you, Gefühl und Verstand. Lack of structure, lack of ideas, without shades.
MOZART! The musical by the dream team of Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levaythrows light on the world’s most famous composer both as a historical human being and as a legendary figure of classical music. Mozart is presented here as an artist of exceptional talent who, in spite of his gift – or perhaps because of it – struggles with life’s simplest challenges. With MOZART!, written by the star team of Sylvester Levay and Michael Kunze, a VBW in-house production returns to Vienna in a new and revamped version. Since its world premiere at the Theater an der Wien on 2 October 1999 – and following 500 triumphant performances in Vienna – the show has been seen by . million people in seven different countries (Germany, Japan, Sweden, South Korea, the Czech Republic and Hungary). A new song has been added to the musical especially for the Vienna production.
The building of the Budapest Operetta Theatre (Budapesti Operettszínház) in Nagymező Street was designed by the Viennese studio Fellner and Helmer. Although a reconstruction in 1966 altered the interior design of the theatre to a great extent, it is still the same 100-year-old chandelier that casts light on the auditorium. Today, director György Lőrinczy manages a true musical theatre here, with Hungarian operettas and contemporary musicals on the repertoire in addition to the historical-literary musicals aimed at the younger generation
