A 1961 Chess album restored to digital print by MCA that's filled with 1951-1952 gems from the Hook's heyday. Chess originally bought "Mad Man Blues" and "Hey Boogie" from the Gone label; the rest first came out on Chess during Hooker's frenzied early days of recording, when his platters turned up on nearly every R&B indie label existant at the time.

All cuts recorded in Detroit, late 1952, except "Mad Man Blues", "Hey Boogie" (Detroit, late 1951), "Dreamin' Blues" (Detroit, 1951) and "Just Me And My Telephone" (Detroit, 1951 or 1952).

John Lee Hooker was an American blues singer and guitarist who recorded from 1948 to 2001. His discography includes recordings issued by various record companies in different formats. The Detroit Years (recordings 1948–1955). 1959 – House of the Blues (Chess). 1960 – The Blues (Crown) – early Modern tracks. 1961 – Sings the Blues (Crown) – Modern tracks. 1961 – Plays and Sings The Blues (Chess) – 1950–52 tracks.
