Garth Hudson - The Sea To The North album
Hudson released his first solo album, The Sea to the North, on September 11, 2001. On July 13, 2002, he was honoured with the Canada South Blues Society's Lifetime Achievement Award. On November 16, 2010, Hudson released Garth Hudson Presents: A Canadian Celebration of the Band. The album features Canadian artists covering songs that were recorded by the Band. Hudson plays on every track and co-produced the album with Peter J. Moore. It wasn't too hard to guess that Garth Hudson's long-awaited solo album would be a tour de force; his virtuoso instrumental talents stood out even in that legendary group of musicians known as the Band. What may surprise listeners, however, is the sheer scope of sound on this effort, with Hudson playing an intimidating range of keyboards (including pipe organ), various saxophones, accordion, melodica, and Tarogato. Each track is a sonic adventure, the hapless listener unsure of what lies around the next bend
I can say, Wow! But I’m not really surprised. The Sea To The North is a Garth Hudson solo album from 2001, so it should evoke a wow, even a holy sh. efinitely a, Why doesn’t the ex-Band keyboardist put out solo albums every six months?! This six-song gem features as many musical tastes as can be heard in Hudson’s playing and is as near perfect an album as one could ever wish for. Robbie Robertson said he and his other Band members used to actually pay Garth for lessons when they were backing Dylan, Ronnie Hawkins and the like back in the early days.
