Exciter is the tenth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was first released on 14 May 2001 in the United Kingdom by Mute Records and a day later in the United States by Reprise Records. The album was produced by Mark Bell, and was supported by the Exciter Tour, one of the band's most successful tours. Exciter debuted at number nine on the UK Albums Chart and number eight on the Billboard 200, selling 115,000 copies in its first week in the United States.
NEW ALBUM - EXCITER - RELEASED 14th MAY. Depeche mode set to return in may with "Exciter," their first studio album since 1997's "ultra"; on board as producer is mark bell; "dream on" is set as first single. DEPECHE MODE have titled their much-anticipated forthcoming album EXCITER, set for release in late May on Reprise. In the words of songwriter MARTIN GORE, sitting in front of the mixing board at a New York City recording studio: "It still has darkness. But I find it more uplifting. The band should also be lauded for sticking to their guns after twenty years of falling in and out of fashion. But despite the amazing range of sounds they've conjured, Exciter ultimately fails to interest. Too much of it drifts by unnoticed, and the songs themselves often form around a vacuous core of trite lyrical conceits.
