Kansas - the prelude implicit - new CD album. Kansas: The Prelude Implicit CD - Includes Special Commemorative Tour Laminate. Not simply some bunch of & all men', Kansas successfully achieve here with & Prelude Implicit' what many oldies prog acts fail to do - release all-original new material that doesn't fall short of the quality and energy of their defining works and offer an album that can stand proudly on its own strong and modern merits.
The Prelude Implicit is the fifteenth studio album by American progressive rock band Kansas, released in September 2016. It is their third studio album without founding member, lead vocalist and keyboardist Steve Walsh, who retired from the band in 2014; the other two being 1982's Vinyl Confessions and 1983's Drastic Measures.
The album art of The Prelude Implicit depicts a mythological Phoenix bird, that’s being struck by multiple bolts of lightning. As if to symbolize that it has been recharged with fresh energy. After original vocalist Steve Walsh left the band, he was replaced by Ronnie Platt in the same month. Every Kansas album sounds different, with varying composition traits. This current line up has collaborated to create a respectable effort in the long tradition of the band. Their identity takes on the same character, even with two major line changes. Always Never the Same was a disproportionate light album, which didn’t rock out too hard. Somewhere to Elsewhere was much better at mixing the elements of hard rock with progressive rock. The Prelude Implicit follows suit with this strategy and is just as good as the previous album.
Kansas is a band who are releasing their first studio album in 16 years, following the exit of an original member/lead singer/primary songwriter and the addition of three new members in the last two years. So let’s get right to the bottom line, because sure, on paper those doesn’t sound like the best circumstances to precede a new album, and many of us have had our disappointments with ‘tribute band’ versions of legendary artists. The Prelude Implicit is the work of a band fully in their stride, a band who are comfortable and confident in their musical arrangements and performances. Newcomers Ronnie Platt (lead vocals/keys), David Manion (keys), and Zak Rizvi (guitars) sound fully integrated, and their contributions allow Kansas to pull off arrangements that just haven’t been possible (or desired?) since Kerry Livgren and Steve Walsh were in their prime.
Exclusive discount for Prime members. Sample this album Artist (Sample). A very solid entry in the Kansas oeuvre. The pre-release singles set the stage nicely for a pretty coherently plotted album that is greater than the sum of its parts. Musically, the songwriting aspires to be Kansas-esque with soaring harmonies, crunchy guitars and Dave Ragsdale's violin.
