Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor, O. 6 - 2. Adagio by Stephen Kovacevich & BBC Symphony Orchestra & Sir Colin Davis. I was initially reticent of listening to the ’71 Piano Concerto recording following the deep, rich, full digital sonorities of the Peer Gynt Suites (I had to lower the setting of my woofer as the bass rattled during Mountain King), but surprisingly the older recording held up nicely. The BBC was perhaps more naturally recorded, but the high and low frequencies were quite dynamic and the piano and orchestra were well placed, neither out-miked over the other. The three compositions were well-recorded and held up over time, even with different players, intelligently and sonically.
