wildtimes Talking to a Record Shop owner who was complaining that these reissues were mastered from a CDs.Can anyone confirm? I can't find any information online to confirm either way. It sounded great to me, but I'm no audiophile. 4AD has been solid the past few years w/r/t their pressings, so at least there's that.
Envias
who the fuck was selling this box for just 92 Euro in Mint condition. ...? can not believe it...........there are always mircales around you.......
Mildorah
maybe it "sold" for 92 euros but maybe the "shipping" was 150 euros - if you catch my drift
Insanity
I've noticed that a lot of actual record stores with physical locations are selling this boxset in mint condition here at the e-bay/discogs rate. Obviously a shop can price their retail items at whatever price they want, but it seems pretty disrespectful of your clients if you have items in stock that you purchased at a wholesale rate from a distributor being sold at an elevated price based on ebay/discogs sales.
Lynnak
In fact, at least for european retailers, that's true. But only if 'their' online shop can clearly be stated as just that. As long as they sell it online privately or via another online retailer, there's nothing you can do. And they know that of course..
Dogrel
I would actually say that any record store that held onto their one copy of this box set and is selling it on discogs for an inflated collectors price would lose their right to participate in RSD next year if RSD found out about it.

I discovered Red House Painters less than a month ago through the excellent 4 nightly BBC 6music Gideon Coe programme. 'Grand Cathedral Park' was the tune and I instantly knew this band was gonna mean something to me. I immediately jumped on to discogs to have a look for the 'Rollercoaster' LP and was left feeling a bit gutted at the prices the album was doing, just my luck i thought ...gonna have to wait for years for some reissues. Ah Well! Only a few days afterwards when casually looking through the RSD(15) releases and not seeing a single thing i was interested in did the words Red House Painters whizz past my eyes, back tracking with a sense of excitement i saw the box set listed. Now early starts, queues and crowds are three of my least favourite things, add to that i live in an end of the line small town with one little independent store, i thought my chances of grabbing one were slim to none. I enquired with the store owner and he confirmed he was only getting one copy and basically told me a hardcore collector was gonna queue all night to get it. Fair enough i thought if you've got that level of dedication you deserve it mate. Anyway the more i listened the more i knew i wanted these early albums so I had a look on the 4AD website and was delighted to see the albums being individually reissued. YES!! no release date but no 10 year plus wait as with the Broadcast reissues on Warp. My lucky day i thought! Record Store Day came and went i checked on discogs and ebay just out of interest and saw some pretty crazy prices and people paying it! I was relaxed though knowing the reissues would eventually be out there. Just on the off chance I tweeted a couple of my favourite out of town stores normanrecords (Leeds) and Piccadilly records (Manchester) and to my delight both had copies left for face value £105 english pounds. I was straight on the phone to my mate in Manchester who promptly had a drive down and picked me the last copy up from Piccadilly, only downside is it won't have it for a couple of weeks til he's back home. The music contained within these early records is absolutely magical and what keeps me on my toes as a music enthusiast knowing that theres always gonna be music out there for you, you still havn't discovered. I havn't played much else of anything for the last month and each listen resonates deeper with me. I struggled at first with some of the lenghtier more downbeat tunes and for sure the mood maybe even the light in the room has to be right to fully immerse and enjoy/appreciate this is brutal yet totally life affirming musicearly favourites for a self confessed RHP novice includeGrace Cathedral Park (Rollercoaster)Mistress (Rollercoaster)New Jersey (Bridge)Canezon (Ocean Beach)San Geronimo (Ocean Beach)Japanese to English (Down Colorful Hill)Down Colorful Hill (Down Colorful Hill)Katy Song (Rollercoaster)Over My Head (Ocean Beach)Shock Me - Second Version with hidden track (Shock Me EP)Sunday & Holidays (Shock Me EP)Down Through (Rollercoaster)Things Mean Alot (Rollercoaster)Brown Eyes (Rollercoaster)Drop (Rollercoaster)What can a say i'm a sucker for even the slightest glimpse of optimism contained within the melodies of these beautiful tunes and am looking forward to some of the more challenging numbers unravelling themselves as the months roll on.Good luck to everyone searching down a copy of the box or the reissues, i may have to invest in the individual black vinyl copies too it's that good it probably deserves owning in duplicate. I priced it up and the box set cost £105 for the bronze vinyl and box specialized artwork etc. The individual reissue bundle will set you back £80 plus £8.50 P&P not a great deal of difference UK link http://redhousepainters.sandbaghq.com/home/red-house-painters-black-vinyl-edition-bundle.htmlExcuse this longwinded and probaly quite boring yarn it's been a long long time since i enthused like this about a band. I Hope all the real fans finally enjoy whatever versions of the albums they end up with it's really not about a pizza box and coloured vinyl afterall is but the timeless music contained withinCheers RHP

If anybody out there has a copy of 'Ghosts on the Great Highway' that they are willing to part with please drop me a line. Would be open to reasonable price or maybe even a trade or partial trade with something from my collection. Cheers
Iphonedivorced
Oh man! I've just given Ghosts on the Great Highway a listen! what have i been missing! CD ordered ... Vinyl on my wantlist ... might have to wait for Father Christmas for that though, or maybe i could re-mortgage! Thanks for the heads up.
Togor
Enthuse away! RHP painters really are/ were amazing. Personally, the longer the tune, the better. Probably my favorite tune from this time in the band is "Medicine Bottle". So down and gloomy, but magical at the same time. Love the way it was recorded. Really, you've only scratched the surface. You now have to listen to "Ghosts of the Great Highway" by Sun Kil Moon, which may be the best non RHP release Koz has made, IMHO. Send chills up your spine. Hell, I need to listen to it now!

Hey Folks - 4AD bundle of all the records on black vinyl is now available for pre-order. You can get a pizza box and make your own box set.http://shopusa.4ad.com/rhp-bundle-vinyl-bundle
Mr_TrOlOlO
Honestly, don't pay over $150 for this. Just get the standard issues if you missed out. Paying 3x-4x the price for bronze vinyl, two boxes, and a numbered sticker on the shrink wrap is not worth it.
Whitegrove
I keep making low-ball offers to people on discogs and ebay just to be annoying.
Gozragore
Holy crap! I got super lucky today... I went to a local indie label/shop today to trade in some records. I spoke of my heartache the other day, and the buyer told me that he knew of one electronica shop having it... I went there and it was f**king sitting on the wall! I am thrilled out of my mind to own copy #461... but I still think that Beggars Int'l Consortium (4aD division) are a bunch of jackasses for releasing this in such small quantity... If there is sufficient quantity for everyone else, I will likely buy the single issues too, and then sell my box... but I promise that I will not flip this for the obscene #s we are seeing here. . Seriously guys, all of you... hold firm and refuse to buy it for that much money... the price will come down.
Malogamand
I support this shaming of flippers. Especially if it's record shops who instead of making it available to customers at retail prices. Way to be friendly to your customers!Obviously that has not sold on Discogs yet, according to the listing:Last Sold: NeverLowest: --Median: --Highest: --So yeah... good luck with trying to sell this for $350 - $600 (seriously?).
deadly claw
It's all a bit embarrassing how annoyed you are about this record.
Kiutondyl
new at discogs i guess? statics will comes later. AND: if already 12 copies (for example) were sold then, just the last 10 will be considered.
Balhala
I will pay $170 shipped for this. I refuse the $200 dollar mark up and you should to. Force them to be reasonable and they will have to be.
Quendant
They won't have to be.. There's always people out there willing to pay the mark up. Sadly, that's how it is..
Agalen
Sounds great
nailer
Options to preorder the set at its actual retail price has popped up on some online stores. Never mind the flippers.
Visonima
dscprlnt78 Options to preorder the set at its actual retail price has popped up on some online stores. Never mind the flippers. How did that work out for you? I pre-ordered on Amazon but never got it. They are keeping the order open, even four months later, but I doubt they'll ever get a copy for me. I ended up buying it here on Discogs for a little less than $300. What the hell, I'm happy I got it.
Bev
Only 17 copies of this box set found it's way to Sweden. I'm glad I got mine - and as a die hard fan I'm not even near selling it.
Alsath
I would love to buy this, but I'm not willing to pay these insane prices that try to establish a high price for these box sets. If you are willing to sell for a fair price, send me a message.
Tam
Sure I blame the asshats that bought these to sell. But really? How can you not blame 4ad and RSD? 1500 copies for the entire planet? There are like 1500 record stores in Northeast United States that participate in RSD. With Ocean Beach alone selling here for upwards of 300 bucks? It was a f**ktastically stupid and thoughtless move to only make 1500 copies and it has left a bunch of fans unhappy.
Beanisend
There is nothing wrong with making a few bucks selling records, but automatically selling something for two, three times the price? A very, very "turdish" move, I believe, but hardly surprising for humans. Records like this will eventually become accessible only to those with privilege. Us dishwashers, street sweepers, sheetrock hangers, neck-punchers, we don't have time to sit on the internet and snatch up every limited piece of what-have-you, and quite frankly, Record Store Day isn't really for people who like records; it is more for people who want others to see them as "people who like records". Liking records does not automatically make you interesting; being interesting makes you interesting...
Tto
i would be interested in the sound quality of the col. vinyl. berlin got alltogether 1 copy of this item (regarding all the importing stores here in town). Other sources talking about JUST 70 copies in whole Germany. However: wait and see regarding this box set : next month the prices will get down; of course still over 200 Euro. the normal pressing will come out for alltogether around approax 100 Euro (or below). To pay 200 Euros and more JUST for a (very nice) box, a number and a col. Vinyl is ridiculous in my point of view.............
Uttegirazu
The sound is not bad. I have only listened the First album, but it was good. I also have it on CD so I think I know how it should sound like. Here in Turku Finland there was no real competition since I was the only one in line outside the local record shop. So my box is allready opened and not for sale... If you want to have limited releases, then what is a good amount then? I think it would be ridiculous to call a release of 10000 copies a limited release when last year the third best selling vinyl sold 25000 all over the world.
Andromakus
I have listened to every record twice, via speakers and headphones. It's a magnificent pressing, sound is warm and pristine. High quality all the way from packaging to pressing.
SING
don´t buy it for those prices. please don´t give those record-store-day-sharks a chance!!! they will do it every year again,
Faezahn
Bought this today at Record Store Day - apparently they are numbered and limited to 1500 copies - I've searched the box and cant find any individual number.
GAMER
It was on the wrapping of the inner box for me. Once that as gone, so was my "616"
Kelerius
Stores in the U.S. will be getting copies of this box set for sale on 4/21. Don't jump on the overpriced sets just yet. 4AD is also releasing each album individually. So you're just paying extra for a box and the colored vinyl.
Barinirm
Sadly, the release date was in fact 4/21, but that's come and gone now and there are none of these to be had, as they were all sold on RSD. Total screw over by the label really.
POFOD
that's unfortunate but not surprising. I wonder if they'll use the same plates for the standard issue or make new ones.
Taur
EliminatorJr. The represses will be on black vinyl unlike the ones in the box. Just for the sake of it being mentioned. Noted.
