Slope is the debut solo album by drummer Steve Jansen, released in 2007 by Samadhi Sound. The album includes guest musicians and was recorded all over the world. Jansen said: "With this album I approached composition attempting to avoid chord and song structures and the usual familiar building blocks. Instead I wanted to piece together unrelated sounds, music samples, rhythms and 'events' in an attempt to deviate from my own trappings as a musician.
Steve Jansen recorded all other instruments and samples at "the nest", London UK. Mastered by tony cousins at Metropolis Studios, London, UK. Sleeve photography and artwork by carl glover, aleph studio. Inner sleeve studio photography by Steve Jansen. Still best known for his tenure in the pioneering post-punk art rockers Japan (as the drummer behind his brother, frontman David Sylvian; the family name is actually Batt), Steve Jansen has maintained a solid working relationship with his former bandmates, having worked with Sylvian, bassist Mick Karn, and keyboardist Richard Barbieri on various projects since the band's 1983 split. SLOPE is Jansen's first solo album, featuring contributions from his brother, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, Joan Wasser (aka Joan As Policewoman), and others on 12 solidly constructed but delicate art-pop songs.
