Ultimately, Klick Revolution is all about the concept of collision. What happens when funk, aka "black music," collides with the brushed percussion and dissonant arrangements of the European avant-garde? (It might not be a coincidence that the cover art for Klick Revolution, like that of its predecessor, is black and white-although this time out, everything seems to be fading to gray. According to Brinkmann, they're missing the point: No arcade games were harmed in the making of this recording. I'm inclined to see the pinball concept as a red herring, just another feint from this infamously tricksterish artist- a ball of fluff designed to knock the needle off course, as it were.
Thomas Brinkmann (born 1959) is a German producer of experimental minimal techno music. He began experimenting with records in the early eighties and released re-workings of material by fellow artists Mike Ink and Richie Hawtin in the second half of the 1990s. These productions were made by playing physically modified vinyl records on highly customized turntables with an additional tone arm.

Thomas Brinkmann – Klick. Label: Max Ernst – ma. CD1. Format: CD, Album. Klick is better than absolutly ANYTHING you can imagine (including everything;). Hypnotic music for great pleasure BOTH of the brain and the body (if you listen to it on good headphones, you'll be able to actually FEEL some grooves - only Kit Clayton's Homonym Cask enabled me to "feel" sounds). Definitly a must-have.

Klick Revolution’ is out this week. Brinkmann has a long career of turntable experimentalism stretching back into the nineties. These days people slap the label minimal on the biggest of big club tunes, but Brinkmann is the real deal: his early dub techno singles on Profan were as stripped down as Wolfgang Voigt, though more glitchy than gliding, while his reworkings of Plastikman in 1996 took out even more sound than they put in, if such a thing is possible. The specific records Brinkmann used for these turntable performances are listed in the eighteen-page booklet accompanying the release. Klick Revolution’ tracklist. Klick Revolution’ by Thomas Brinkmann is out on Maxernst on December 5th, 2006. DJ Page: Thomas Brinkmann. 0/. Most popular news.
Thomas Brinkmann succeeds his late-'90s "variation" albums with Klick, a conceptual project that showcases his growth as both a conceptualist and as a producer. Throughout 2000, a number of producers explored this same concept, but no one has been this dogmatic in their approach to the quickly.

NotesFrom the one-sheet:
A tribute to the pinball machine. These tracks deal with the concept of the locked box with the inclined plane, as the player ponders his "questionary about luck, the slide of the things into the logic of decline," as Brinkmann states. This is a new game with turntables -- not unlike the 2001 conceptual Klick release, but this time the player is trying to turn the fixed medium of the locked box into a landscape where the klicks are sounds from the past, confronting and reacting against bumpers, ramps and logs. These klick revolutions are based on live sets performed during the last two years, and the variations within the live context are apparent: each track builds on a theme, with different sideways escape routes using various locked-groove records as tools (the specific records Brinkmann used for these sets can be found in the 18-page booklet in poster-format accompanying this release).
